North Lincolnshire's Safeguarding Children Board

The purpose of the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) is to coordinate and monitor what is done by agencies who work together to safeguard children, protect them from harm and promote their welfare.

The LSCB has agreed three priorities for safeguarding children and young people in North Lincolnshire. These are:

Reduce the harm from:

  • Child sexual exploitation
  • Domestic abuse
  • Neglect

Definition of Safeguarding

The LSCB works to the definition of Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children which is:

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of their health and development
  • ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully

(Reference: Working Together 2013)

Safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility and effective safeguarding arrangements are underpinned by two key principles:

  1. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility
  2. Effective safeguarding is child centred

It is important to listen to what children say. They tell us that they want to be respected, their views to be heard, to have stable relationships with professionals built on trust and for consistent support to be provided for their individual needs.
